This is a design proposal for a series of courtyards encircling apartments in a recently renovated factory building in Berlin.

Diagonal elements unify the spaces and defines a series of leisure areas through terracing. Zones are created by modifications in cobblestones, a subtle and economic solution. Corridors are paved in stones oriented with the traffic, and larger elevated stones create leisure zones. Patches of discarded metal, replacing cobblestones at intervals, trace reflective lines along circulation paths.

A number of families with small children live in the complex, and therefore a building module for children’s play and adult seating is integrated into the grid of stonework.
